Lent Day 36 Palm Sunday There is a sense of anticipation in the air, as if we are waiting for something to happen. Today is Palm Sunday and we watch as the story of Holy week begins to unfold in front of us. The stage is set, and the players are all in place. I wonder how Jesus felt as he began his journey from the Mount of Olives into Jerusalem? He knew what lay before him and yet willingly went on, entering through the gate and fulfilling the old prophecies about the coming King. We are there in the gathering crowd but what is our response to this scene before us? As he rides along, people are spreading their cloaks on the road. They are pulling down palm branches and waving them in praise and adulation. 'Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven.' Are we welcoming the coming King, or do we like so many in the crowd soon forget him and turn away? 'This is our God, the servant king, he calls us now to follow him, to bring our lives, as a daily offering, Of worship to the servant king.' May we be prepared to follow him, wherever our path leads us. Lord in your mercy Hear our prayer |
